Hi, I’m Nathan. I’m 32, born in Australia and now I live in Canada. I’ve worked in the restaurant industry for over 17 years now and I consider myself to be one lucky guy.

I  have a beautiful fiance, live in a sweet apartment, got some truly amazing friends and a loving family. What more could I ask for?

My Story

I have worked in restaurants for a long time now, and on many levels. I’ve been a dishwasher, busser, host, server, bartender, manager, and general manager over the years and wearing all these different hats has exposed me to the strengths and weaknesses of each department.

To read my first blog post on how I first got involved in the restaurant world click here and read “How I started as a server“.

I grew up in Australia and spent some time after I turned 18 in a few different countries. I went to Fiji, New Zealand, Asia, The Middle East and now live in Canada. I have been fortunate enough to see some pretty amazing places around the globe and got to experience working in hospitality on an international level, which opened my eyes to a whole new world.

So why howtobeagoodserver.com?

With this blog, I want to give new servers starting in the industry and experienced servers information that has made my work in restaurants a lot easier, and has made me a better server.

I’m by no means saying that I am an expert who knows everything there is to know, but I’m someone who doesn’t hype things and over the years in the industry I’ve learned a lot along the way.

If you’re not currently working as a server but are thinking about it, you can see what it’s like here, get a look at what goes on inside a restaurant, and hopefully give you some information you may not have been aware of about this industry.

At the end of the day you have to do what your passionate about and for me this is it. If your passion is also the service industry then I wish you all the best and I hope that in some way this blog can help you out with your goals. If you have any questions, want to share a story or even just say hi then please send me a message through the “Contact Nathan” page

Thanks for reading, you rock!
